Right, well the Melbourne fundraiser last week absolutely went off. Here is the some of the Melbourne team, left to right, Meg of 12 Parasols who did a gi-normous job heading the team up, Helen - prize finder extraordinnaire who not only pulled in prizes but volunteered on the night, Elissa (Kel's sissy) who did the same, and Kels, who by this stage had not slept for 24 hours. Looking good despite!
I don't think I'm allowed to tell you how much this dynamic team raised - we're saving that for our Gimme Shelter newsletter.
Of course, Kate Ceberano was amazing - heaps of fun, very earthy and wildly energetic. We invited her over for the December opening of Kesho Leo Children's Village and she looked entirely open to the suggestion. Woohooo!
We had a motivating response on the night - guests seemed to think we were organised (bossy, yes) and thorough (nit-picking, yes), so that was terrific feedback.
Our volunteers really looked the goods in their spanking-new organic-cotton white fws t-shirts. Yes, the ts will be on sale soon - we just have to make a collective decision on whether the capped sleeves are too tight or not. YES! screams Kelsey, NO! counters Shona and Anne & I sit on the fence with "They were far too tight, but seem okay, now we've washed them..." We've decided to put the decision to the vote. Our volunteers will decide for us. Let you know what happens.
Now I've begun arranging the Sydney event. It's going to be big. It's also going to raise $100,000 AUD. Said it. Has to happen now. It's going to be a posh-off art exhibition cocktail type do with some bizarro world stuff (just to keep the entertainment pouring in!). Janine Moodley, GM of Catalyst, a not-for-profit that aims to promote & develop a culture of philanthropy in corporate Australia is on board, and on fire. Stuart Gregor, that tops wine reviewer/author bloke you all know is going to be our auctioneer. Entertainment? A secret (ie don't know yet!)...Food, ditto... What I really need is a few more volunteers who will happily rock up at my house each Monday night (for DIY pizza) and raise their hand for whatever jobs we need to fling at them to get this shebang underway. We also need John Symonds (Aussie Home Loans) to agree to let us use his Point Piper mansion as the venue (well, I DID say posh, didn't I!).
Shona's Doomben Race Day is looking the goods too. She's just got a few silent auction prizes to pull in. Why won't anyone give Shona an electric scooter to auction off? She's a nice girl, surely someone wants to help her. Lonely the Shonely. Lonely for a scooter.

Again, I've buried the lead. We have begun negotiating on our Utopia block. The asking price is 5,000USD an acre. A bit gali-bloody-sana, which is Kiswahili for 'pricey'). Anyway, it's a start. And a start is a start is a start. Go Nolasco, you champion village elder, get that asking price down, down, down!
